Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir is a former Indian cricketer who played for the Indian national team in all formats of the game. He was born on October 14, 1981, in Delhi, India, and is considered one of the finest openers in Indian cricket history. Gambhir was known for his aggressive style of batting and his ability to take the game away from the opposition with his attacking stroke-play.

Gambhir made his debut for the Indian cricket team in 2003 in a One Day International (ODI) against Bangladesh. He was selected for the Test squad in 2004 and went on to play 58 Tests for India. Gambhir's highest Test score of 206 came against Australia in Delhi in 2008. In ODI cricket, Gambhir played 147 matches, scoring over 5,000 runs at an average of 39.68. He was an important member of the Indian team that won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Gambhir's biggest strength as a cricketer was his ability to score runs when it mattered the most. He was known for his performances in high-pressure situations, especially in World Cup matches. In the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka, Gambhir played a match-winning knock of 97 runs to help India lift the trophy after 28 years. His partnership with MS Dhoni in the final is still remembered as one of the greatest partnerships in World Cup history.

Apart from his impressive record in international cricket, Gambhir also had a successful domestic career. He played for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy and led the team to two consecutive titles in 2007-08 and 2008-09. Gambhir also played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and was the captain of the team that won the tournament in 2012 and 2014.

Gambhir's cricketing career was not without its share of controversies. He was involved in a heated exchange with Shahid Afridi during the 2007 ODI series between India and Pakistan. In 2010, Gambhir was fined for elbowing Shane Watson during an ODI against Australia. He was also involved in an on-field altercation with Virat Kohli during an IPL match in 2013.
